Solo traveler to Los Angeles-Things to Do and Where to Stay
My friend and I were planning on going to Los Angeles next month for a little getaway, but I have a feeling my friend is not going to be able to make the trip due to finances. I still definitely want to go as I want to make LA my future home at some point of the year just to be closer to job opportunities in my field. I'm a 24 y.o. female and have never been to LA. Any reccomodations on things to do as a solo traveler? I want to see the sites, but also want to "live like a local" and really see if I would be happy out there. I don't have an itinerary set yet, but will be there for six days!
I was also looking at a female only shared room in a hostel in just to be around other people. I've never stayed in a hostel before, but it honestly sounded safer then being alone in an AirBnB or hotel with no one knowing/caring when you come and go. Any advice for staying in a hostel?
1.) What are some cool things to see and do? I'm open to anything! I really love music and film!
2.) What are some great restaurants and bars to check out? I'm a big foodie and love craft cocktails! I will eat just about everything, my favorites being Mexican food and Korean BBQ. Recommendations for Mexican or Korean BBQ places will definitely be appreciated.
3.) Any cool events going on President's Day weekend?
Also, my Mom panics at the thought of me traveling anywhere alone. Last summer I drove ten hours by myself to go to Bonnaroo in Tennessee and she flipped out! I camped there for a week with another girl I met that was volunteering, and I came back in one piece (I was not raped or murdered like my Mom always thinks will happen to me when I travel) I've traveled by myself once before, so I'm not very worried about going to LA alone. But assuring my safety will prevent my mother from having a heart attack. I'm smart when I travel, but anything I should be aware of before I go regarding not getting murdered (According to my Mom) I'm an adult, so I don't need her permission...just not trying to make this woman flip the fuck out :)
