Are solo travelers common in group-led tours like G Adventures, Intrepid, etc.?

I am graduating this spring, and my parents have agreed to fund a reasonable, two-week trip as a graduation gift. It has always been a dream of mine to travel overseas, to either Europe or somewhere in South America. I have never traveled abroad, and certainly not overseas (born and raised in the US).

One caveat is that since this will be my first time travelling solo, my parents are insistent that I go with a reputable group travel company. I have done some research, and it seems Contiki, Top Deck, G Adventures, and Intrepid are the reputable group tour operators internationally.

However, for those of you familiar with these tours, do they mostly consist of couples and families? Are they actually receptive to solo travelers, or is it purely marketed as such in order to attract the largest swaths of people possible? Lastly, for those of you who may have actually participated in one or more of these group tours, is there any specific one you would recommend?

I'm interested in going on a sort of adventure, learning about the history and culture of a unique area, and partying on at least several of the nights during the two weeks (without drinking being the primary focus). I'm not thrilled with the prospect of jumping from country to country on long bus rides and would much prefer to focus on 1-2 countries/regions, but this seems to be the norm for these group-tour companies -- a downside I'll simply have to accept. Any and all insight would be greatly appreciated!
