Should I (32F) solo travel to Peru when being constantly told not to due to safety?
A bit of background: I travel quite a bit, but have NEVER traveled alone. I have been told multiple times that it's therapeutic to do so, so I am planning a trip to Peru in late March. I am a 32 F, and of petite stature. My SO is adamant on reminding me how unsafe Peru is, doesn't matter which city (to preference, he's not Peruvian and has been once). He says I'm being selfish and making a huge mistake by not thinking about my family by putting myself in danger. (He will be in Ecuador at the time, and that is why he is not coming).
It does make me nervous, because I have heard bad things about Lima. Because of this, I will not be staying there except to fly to Cuzco. I figured this is the perfect time to try solo travel, and to cross off a country and continent that I have always wanted to visit. Any advice for a female solo traveler that is visiting S. America and Peru for the first time, and not a native speaker? Nothing is booked yet, because concerns for my safety are holding me back and I have back up solo travel locations in mind, but Peru is something I would love to pursue.
