(SEA) About to book first solo trip - freaking out and want to postpone - Lots of questions..

I was just about to book my trip for approximately a week and a half out to Bangkok, planning anywhere from 2 weeks to 5 months. I picked out a Hostel I think I want to stay at for the first 3 days, have approximately list/order of cities/attractions based on blogs, but was just planning to play by ear on where to go and what to do. But now I am wondering if I am vastly under prepared and need much more planning.

Wondering if anyone could help out with some logistical questions below, or any just general advice on committing to booking, and being spontaneous/planning:

  1. The whole sim card phone thing (I have the unlocked phone). Where do I go to get it, how long does it last, does that give me data, what even is a sim card...

  2. Are there ATMs in Hostels. I know Credit Cards for some hostels, planes, buses, but how do I get cash for actual living without hauling thousands over in cash.... Do debit cards work at all over there? Is that what you take cash out with..

2.5. Do I need to go get a bunch of passport pictures, or can I just print out random pictures, or I am confused why people are taking over pictures to get through immigration..

  1. Any good advice for a list of medication for a emergency pack. Things like what kind of bug spray, etc.

  2. Do you leave your large backpacks in hostels, are they safe locked to a bed, etc and just use day packs? Or what are the logistics of one's bag.

  3. How do you begin to plan how to get to the hostel when you are planning/spontaneously a trip to a new city. Or just always taxi? Advice for Bangkok?

  4. The onward flight out of Bangkok, I was planning Cambodia next, do I just book a random 3 month flight out of Bangkok?

I've read lots of people just go with the flow which I am excited to try, and plan their trip based on Hostel stories, but I am freaking out that I can't just fly across the world with no plan and it is stopping me from booking. Any advice?
