Help me down my Vietnam itinerary!
Hey all, I'm heading to Vietnam in January. I basically have 24 days once I'm there. I'm starting in HCMC and working my way up to Hanoi/the north, but I'm wondering if I should revamp my itinerary to focus more on exploring North Vietnam and pretty much just passing through the cities? My tentative plan is:
HCMC 2-3 days (might cut down to ~1.5?)
Da Lat 2-3 days
Da Nang ? days
Hoi An ? days (some people suggest to stick to a day trip here from Da Nang. Thoughts?)
Hue 0.5 days - basically passing through here, will bike from Da Nang to Hue to check out the Hai Van Pass
Phong Nha 2 days
Ninh Binh 2 days
Hanoi - whatever time at the end
Halong Bay 3 days (Castaways tour came highly recommended from a friend, but honestly not sure if I'm going to want to be spending that much time drinking/partying that hard. Another option I will explore is staying on Cat Ba and taking a day trip out to Halong Bay)
Ha Giang Loop 4 days (seems to be the most reasonable time to do this quickly)
Sapa 2-3 days (Should I only stick to Ha Giang? Purge my itinerary elsewhere? I see some recommendations not to bother with Sapa too)
This packs out my 24 days entirely if I assume I'll spend a couple in Hoi An and Da Nang. And, I'm not really including any time lost for traveling or 'safety days' at the end. So, right now it's too packed. I know the worst mistake I can make is being too rushed. Right now my thoughts are that I would love the experience of exploring Northern Vietnam more. I wrote some questions in bold in my itinerary, and other than that I'd love to hear peoples thoughts. Thank you!
