First solo trip to Costa Rica (22F) - Transportation advice?
Hi all! Planning my first-ever solo trip to Costa Rica, and really getting stumped on efforts to get transportation around the country. As I will be solo, I don’t want to rent a car but am a little nervous about relying on public buses for the longer travel distances throughout my trip. I will be going for 10 days between Jan-Feb and my itinerary as of now looks like this:
Day 1: arrive at SJO at 11:30am and get transportation to Arenal (thinking a shuttle bus service such as Anywhere Costa Rica or Caribe Shuttle?)
Stay in a hostel around Arenal National Park until day 3
Was thinking about visiting Monteverde for a day or two but I’m seeing conflicting things on whether it’s worth it? (I am a nature/wildlife enthusiast)
If I go to Monteverde - Day 6: get shuttle to Uvita (where I am visiting a friend for the remainder of my trip)
Day 10: get shuttle back to SJO
I am planning on using public transportation within the areas I am visiting. Does this sound feasible? I know shuttles are much pricier than public bus, but as a 22 y/o female and it being my first solo trip, I’m willing to spend a bit more to ensure safety and peace of mind. However, if I get advice that public buses between those locations are possible/safe I am definitely willing to look into it more. Thanks for any advice!
