Buying a car in Colombia > Traveling for a month > Selling car in Argentina
So I've never done anything quite like this.. I have a couple of solo trips under my belt, though nothing too crazy. One was Puerto Rico where I rented a car and drove around the entire country in several days. Another was 2000 mile Cali trip from San Diego>Joshua Tree> Death Valley> Yosemite>Sacramento> San Francisco> LA> San Diego. 6 days in my rental car, no accommodations. Those trips were awesome, but pretty easy.
I am white/latino so I can definitely get by in Spanish speaking countries. My Spanish is okay, definitely not fluent but pretty decent enough. The only problem is I look 100% white/gringo, so I am an easy target. I have been to the Dominican Republic at least 10-15 times and traveled a bit around the country. So I do have some experience in poor Latin American countries. But I am usually always with family and very rarely by myself.
I'm going on my first "true" solo trip to Guatemala in 3 weeks. A little nervous, but very excited. I'll be there for a week. I'm going to use this trip as a little refresher since I haven't been out of the country in nearly 2 years. And not counting Puerto Rico, I haven't been to a different on my own.
TL;DR: Done a couple of weeklong solo trips. Though nothing truly out of the US territory. I am ½ Dominican and have traveled there many times, never truly alone. My Spanish is decent, though not great.
So with all that out of the way. I am thinking about the logistics of this trip. I would like to fly in to Colombia and purchase something for for $1000-2000 (total, with tax/title/registration/insurance). I briefly browsed some classified ads with plenty of vehicles in my price range.
I would probably rent a place for a couple days in the area and get it serviced before actually going out for my drive. My plan after that is to drive around Colombia for a few days/week. Then cross over to Ecuador and explore for another few days. (Not counting Canada. I've never crossed a border so I'm not sure how that would work. Especially in a car that I bought in another country.)
After exploring Ecuador I would then drive through to Peru and meet up with my brother in Lima who will be traveling there for a week. He has a friend there who can show us around. I'll be able to check out the car and see if anything needs to be done while I'm there, since this is about the halfway point.
After Peru I am not certain, but I want to check out Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. Maybe even Paraguay if I can figure out a way to add it into the trip and if I find interesting things to do and visit there. But then if I go to Paraguay I would then want to go to Brazil and Uruguay since they're both so close and I don't know if I'd ever make this trip again.
I'm estimating about 6000-7000 miles for the whole trip.. My plan would then be to sell the car in Argentina or wherever I wind up flying out from. In total it would be maybe a month long trip.
