Anyone been to Chang Mai in late March?

I am currently in India and trying to decide if I should go to Nepal mid-Febuary to mid-March and then Chang Mai or Chang Mai first because I know it starts to get hot after February. My concern is that flying to Nepal from New Dehli is half the price so I dont know if it makes sense to fly to Thailand after India and then back to the same region. My goal for the next two months is to trek Nepal and train muay thai or other martial arts in an area that has a lot of backpackers and nice weather. So open to any suggestions for places that meet that criteria and wondering if anyone has experience being in Chang Mai mid March? Will there still be other backpackers and will it be too hot around then?
