32 F - report solo trip to El Salvador

Hey lovelies,

I remember a few weeks back I was searching information about El Salvador but I couldn't find much. I came back from a short trip (8 days) last week so I figured I would share some stuff. If you have any questions I will gladly answer them in posts. I only "knew" one person living in San Salvador (SS) before going there - the owner of a Brazilian jiujitsu school.

- Arrived to San Salvador airport. Super fast. Clean. Good wifi. 10 USD visa upon entry (as a Canadian). Plenty of transportation to go around, but I had booked mine in advanc (just in case). Uber has been allowed in San Salvador for a little over a year now and a trip to the city center is around 45min and would cost you about 20$;
- The place is gorgeous and lovely. It's warm, sunny, low UV index, little to no smog. Wasn't catching on fire. Just putting out there for my fellow pale people ;)

- The Spanish is very smooth, kinda slow and easy to understand for a non-native with basics. It was fairly easy to understand and be understood;

- The food is amazing and so tasty. The seafood is mind-blowing. The pupusas are a new addiction I'll need to satisfy. Quesadillas and coffee ? Wow.

- The highlight of my trip is the people. I got a uber driver on my first day (Lester). He was cool, his English was perfect. He saw me walking downtown 2 days after and stopped to chat and hang out. He gave me super cheap rides for the rest of my trip;

- Everyone I met kept offering to take me to the beach, come over for BBQ, come over to eat or give me ride. They don't get a lot of tourists so it felt so nice and sweet. Ended up going to El Tunco beach with some locals who made me take the local bus. Yo, they drive like maniacs. Imagine on a bus (90¢ for regular school bus, 1.25$ for a fancier bus with AC). The bus ride to El Tunco is around 50 minutes. Most hostels or restaurants there will gladly watch your stuff, let you use their facilities and what not if you take a drink or grab some food.

- La Ruta de las Flores is totallyl worth it. It takes you through small communities with beautiful scenery and some coffee plantation and tasting as well. I cannot recommend it enough.

- Hiking the Santa Ana volcano.... beautiful, tough but not TOO tough. 3$ to enter. 3$ for guide/ride. Bring water and warm clothes for the top of the volcano. The view is amazing.

- I felt super safe all the time. Visited all the churches and old national buildings. The country isn't in the best shape, but I cannot help but think they are unlucky SOBs with all the natural disasters onop of political corruption and what not. That being said, the views, the people, the weather and the low cost are worth it.

Feel free to ask any questions :) I haven't done full trip reports before so I'm here to improve !
