Best Way To Travel in the US

I'm a 27 (M) and am from Hawaii. Growing up, I never had a desire to visit/live in the continental US and my views of the US, despite being American myself, were negative. This was mostly due to the radical, rural neighborhood I grew up in. (My family/neighbors are still mad about how the monarchy was overthrown.) However, after leaving the islands and moving abroad to Japan, my views have changed and now I'd really like to try to live in the continental US next year. Before settling on a place to put roots down in, I want to visit all the places I am interested in and make an informed decision. There are so many places I am interested in and I would like to do a road trip to personally visit them to see what area of the US would be a good fit for me. I've saved up over 30K (hopefully it doesn't cost that much) over the last three years and would like to do a road trip for about 3-6 months.

These are the cities/ attractions I am interested in divided into regions of the US:

West: San Francisco, San Diego, Portland (OR), Missoula, Bozeman, Boise, Salt Lake City, Tempe/Scottsdale, Denver, Fort Collins, Yellowstone, Yosemite National Park, Rocky Mountains National Park, Zion National Park

Midwest Region: Twin Cities, Chicago, Grand Rapids, Madison, Milwaukee, Omaha, Des Moines, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Chattanooga, Nashville, Memphis, Smokey Mountain National Park (Perhaps Tennessee is considered south?... not sure)

East: Washington DC, Richmond, Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Portland (ME), Baltimore, New York

South Region: Austin, San Antonio, New Orleans, Key Wests, Atlanta. I want to travel before getting a job and things get serious. My family recommended I just choose one, get a job, and travel to different cities over the weekends, but I feel like once I get a job someplace I'll be stuck there for a few years and what if I don't like it. I'm young now and have the time and resources. What is the cheapest way to travel?

Here are some of the ways that were suggested online:

Traveling Methods: 1) Greyhound Buses and Couchsurfing (negatives-Buses are expensive?) 2) Buying a cheap car and sleeping inside of it (doesn't sound comfortable), 3) Getting an RV and driving around (have never driven a big car and my friends too busy to go) 4) Taking trains/flights to certain regions than just renting a car there.

TLDR; I want to travel across the US in the cheapest way. What is the best way to do it? Any other places I should add to the list? Do you have any tips? Thanks in advance:)
