Fall road trip from pgh. Smokey mountains or Adirondacks?
Next week I'll have 5 or 6 days to go somewhere awesome starting from Pittsburgh. I was thinking south along the blue ridge mountains to the smokies, or up to the adirondacks maybe even all the way to Maine. I've never been to the south or northeast so I'm not sure how picturesque either will be late October. I want a nice drive and some legit hiking. I want to get away from civilization a bit so I wanted to avoid the touristy areas. I might even camp in some state parks (temperature won't be an issue). Any info or suggestions are much appreciated, thanks.
