Need advice for a pretty Oregon (car) campground within about an hour from Portland, coming from the north.

We are going to /r/roadtrip Vancouver BC to Portland for Canadian Thanksgiving weekend - 6th,7th,8th Oct. Plan to wake up super early Saturday and push across the border as it's usually pretty tolerable if you make a 5am-ish start.
My partner has never been to Portland and we've been meaning to make the trip for a few years, but now have our camper converted van!
Plan to road trip Saturday to a campground within an hour from Portland. Chillax for the afternoon/night, then get into a hotel for an early check-in on Sunday and spend the day doing Portlandy stuff (like drinking lots of beer). Then we'll meander back on Monday and face the long weekend border hell that night... with a... legal quantity of top notch brewskis.. maybe.
If it's super shitty weather we might give in and likely just stay in a hotel the Saturday. But would much rather camp as that's why we have the vehicle and that's what we love! Would be good to get that one more camp in before the rains really set in (for us Vanouverites anyway).
I would love some camping recommendations for something within an hour or so North from Portland! Nothing further south please, we will likely be searched at the border plus the 6 hour drive, and it might be raining and our van isn't the fastest vehicle out there. So it'll be quite the long day already!
