First Road Trip Advice
My girlfriend and I are going on our first real road trip in a couple weeks. We are driving a 2007 Yukon and we either plan on either taking a small camper trailer that we bought for cheap or we plan on just sleeping in the back of the SUV some nights/camping some nights/hotel maybe a night or two, maybe). Our trip is from the pinky of Michigan, up through the UP across all the way to the west coast to Portland, Oregon and then down to the redwoods in Northern California and back through Salt Lake City and Colorado and then up again. We are doing it in two weeks and it’s about 6,000 miles. Then we are starting back for our senior year at MSU pretty much right after.
Based on this info, should we take the camper trailer or leave it? Is it more trouble than it’s worth, extra for gas, the annoyance of having to have it hitched all the time when trying to park, having to still pay for campsites to park it on, etc. or would it be worth it cause we can always sleep in it and it would likely be far more comfortable?
Also, do any of you have other tips for us? Anything related to the trip at all? Are we biting off more than we can chew or will it be a profitable experience? My girlfriend and i are fairly worldly and smart about things, and we travel well together, so no issue there.
