My booking.com account was hacked and charged over 10k HKD$.
I have been a loyal customer (Genius member) at booking.com for years and always trusted their site to book all my hotel bookings.
But, just last week, I received a notification from booking.com app that my account was being used to book at a 5stars hotel in HongKong and my stored credit card was being charged HK$ 10,890immediately. I tried to log on to the site as soon as i saw the notification but it didn't allow me to log in and just kept asking me to reset the password.
Within a few mins, the hackers managed to book one of the most expensive hotel in hong kong using my account and not only that, they managed to also wipe out my personal information and used their names to book. From security emails I received from booking.com, someone from Taiwan logged on to my booking.com account using a Windows Server and Chrome browser. But, it was already too late as the money has already been deducted.
I immediately called booking.com hotline. They put me on hold for over 20 minutes and just simply told me that I will be refunded and my genius member status will be reactivated.
But there was absolutely no explanation from their end on why it happened and only asked me for emails i received for their record.
Thankfully about 3 days later, my card transaction showed I was refunded for the same HKD amount that was deducted but not the bank charges or any exchange rates that was incurred (which is about 115$) due to this transaction.
Tried contacting to booking.com through email about followup on my incident but to no avail. Tried calling their hotline but the customer service just told me that they have already cancelled the booking and for the bank charges, they are not going to be responsible for it. They also didn't let me talk to their manager and just simply said that you can go ahead and make a police report.
This was such an irresponsible response for a business that deals with customers worldwide on a daily basis.
So, if you ever store your credit-card information on the site, I urge you to remove them immediately and even remove all your sensitive personal information so you don't want to be going through such horrible experience like me.
