Is this trip too ambitious? [USA]
Spouse and I have a family event in LA to attend and figured what the hell, why not make a long summer trip out of it?
late July to early August 17 days, 6,500 miles or so
Day 1: Philly to Chicago (LONG day drive, visit friends that night)
Day 2: Chicago to Joplin
Day 3: Joplin to Amarillo
Day 4: Amarillo to Albuquerque
Day 5: Albuquerque to Flagstaff
Day 6: Flagstaff to LA
Day 7: LA for family thing
Day 8: LA for family thing
Day 9: LA -> Zion NP
Day 10: Zion NP -> Bryce NP -> Grand Staircase-Escalante NP (do Zion and Bryce in day, drive to GSE)
Day 11: Grand Staircase-Escalante NP -> Monument Valley (do GSE in day, drive to MV for sunset)
Day 12: Monument Valley -> Arches NP
Day 13: Arches NP -> Rocky Mountain NP
Day 14: Rocky Mountain NP -> Pikes Peak
Day 15: Pikes Peak -> Lincoln
Day 16: Lincoln -> Indianapolis
Day 17: Indianapolis -> Philly
Basically we'd like to 'sample' parts of Route 66 while also 'sampling' some national parks. We plan on coming back one day to devote real time to these guys (like doing two weeks in Utah or a week in Colorado or something).
Any recommendations? Tips? Advice? Thanks!!
