Debit card eaten. Then wallet lost. 2 weeks to go and feeling frustrated and down.
Went to get a bus this morning in Sintra Portugal and realized I didn’t have my wallet in my bag. No big deal, as I was sure I must have left it in my hostel. After a very thorough search multiple times and talking with the owners I can’t find it. Nothing else is gone. It was a small hostel with only about 5 other people and no one else in my room. I don’t see how it could have been stolen but I can’t think of any other possibility except that it fell out of my pocket on the way back from the restaurant. I was practically the only one on the sidewalks, it was raining, and I went straight to my room when I got back to the hostel.
Anyway, in Lisbon I had a rough few days because I couldn’t get cash because my debit card was eaten by an atm so I lost a bunch of time dealing with that.
Then for my last day before flying to Spain I had a whole itinerary that I was excited about and I don’t know if I’ll get to do any of it and I don’t really ever plan on coming back here, maybe ever. Also, it’s not a special wallet but it’s the only wallet I’ve ever had since I got my license and my grandfather, who recently passed away, gave it to me.
This is my first truly solo trip and although it’s been a bit lonely I’ve been handling it well. I’m not trying to have a pity party but this latest incident has gotten me really down though.
I still have my passport and my phone. That’s about the only consolation.
Any experiences like this? Any advice? I’m trying to get money wired to me so I should be fine eventually monetarily. But it still sucks. I really just want to enjoy the rest of my trip but it’s hard to be optimistic right now.
