3.5 weeks to see the USA...
My wife and I are in our 20’s, no kids, no pets, and we are getting ready to take a 3.5 week road trip around the country. Looking at leaving around July 11th and returning around August 1st.
We have started looking at a map, and spitballing what we would like to go see. For the trip we will be pulling a pop up camper trailer, but are looking to mix that with some hotel accommodations as well.
Neither of us has left the east coast, except a quick week visit to Seattle last summer. Our starting and ending point is Washington DC. I’ve started using the “Roadtrippers” app, to make an itinerary.
We are looking for recommendations for places to go, routes to take, things to see... here is some of our wish list: -Knoxville TN -New Orleans -Austin TX -Dallas TX -Grand Canyon -Hoover dam -Roswell NM -Yosemite/ anywhere we can go see the redwoods -San Francisco/ want to ride a street car, see the Golden Gate Bridge -pacific coast highway -Seattle (this would be a couple days staying with family to do laundry and regroup) -would like to drive as far north and west as I can in Washington ( drove from fort Kent Maine to key west last summer... unfortunately not only using us1... would like to do the opposite corner from key west not including Alaska) -Yellowstone -Denver -Mount Rushmore
As far as activities go, we don’t do night life stuff (no clubs, bars, breweries, vineyards, gambling), we like scenic overlooks, awful corny tours from the AAA guide book (ghost tours, sewer tours, etc), I LOVE activities that I bring my Jeep on ( incline plane in Johnstown pa, ferries, heard there is still a redwood you can drive through, beach trips, etc). This may be our last chance to do something like this, before we have a mortgage, kids, dogs, responsibilities, etc... so we want to hit bucket list items (though we really don’t have our own bucket lists). I want to do our best to keep daily driving either below 5 hours/day or over 15 hours a day.... I don’t mind loosing an entire day at a time to the road, so long as it truly is a day... I hate little 8-11 hour drives... by the time u get where ur going it’s too late to enjoy. For some of the stops... we are cool with them only being stops... like the grand canyon ... we will get there. Take pics. Look. Have lunch.... and get back in car. Other spots like Yellowstone, we intend on spending a few days at a time.
Not afraid of 10k+ miles. Jeep has under 30k on it, and will continue to have oil changed and fluids checked every 3.5k, so no worries there. AAA is up to date.
I know it’s only 3.5 weeks but I think we can still see a lot!
Excited to read any suggestions!!! Also apps that I should get would be cool too!
