Looking for trip recommendations (autumn)
I am a woman, late 20s, living in the EU, and I’ve been travelling solo for about a decade now. I do short trips several times a year when I visit other EU countries, and I like taking one major vacation a year. Outside Europe, I’ve been to the north-east coast of the US, east Africa (Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda), north Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt), and the Middle East (Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE). With the exception of north Africa, I have done all of these trips alone and without the support of a travel agency.
I can take three weeks off in September, October, or November, and I am unsure about which country/countries to visit. So far, I’ve been thinking about an overland trip through southern Africa (Botswana, Nabimia, or South Africa), but I would be open to any suggestion.
Some criteria:
-
I am not looking for a city break, so I don’t want to spend more than a few days in large cities like NYC, Tokyo, Dubai, or Shanghai.
-
Security is important. As a blonde, white woman, I have experienced some mild harassment in Egypt and Zanzibar, and I would prefer not repeating that experience.
-
I like historical sites, ancient and medieval architecture, national parks, beautiful landscapes, wild animals in their natural habitat. I don’t care for nightlife, amusement parks, nor cruises, and I don’t want to spend multiple days drinking coctails on a beach.
-
I don’t drive, so the opportunity to do trips without renting a car is essential.
-
It should not rain all the time, and the average day temperatures would ideally be somewhere between 10’C and 30’C.
-
Good food is appreciated.
My budget is up to around $180 per day, exluding flights. I can spend more if the experience is so unique, it warrants a higher price tag (e.g. like seeing mountain gorillas in Rwanda, or visiting Serengeti in Tanzania).
