Grasping the soul of a foreign country : what techniques do you apply to avoid being "overwhelmed" by the social/cultural environment ?
Hello there :)
Wherever traveling a foreign country solo happens, i found 2 extreme trends after few weeks:
-either solo travelers tend to adopt a "pack" habit for comfort: people speaking the same languages starting to team up while ignoring the locals.
-either feeling isolated and passively absorbing absolutely whatever the environment brings to the solo traveler (either loving or hating the country, having absolutely positive or negative opinions).
I'm not sure if my description rings the bell to you but if you get what i meant, do you have any techniques on how YOU would tend to avoid these two extreme mindsets?? cheers!
