Do you ever take a trip someplace for no other reason than to get away from home?
There was a recent post, now deleted, from someone who was asking if it was worth it to take a trip if he wasn't interested in sightseeing, doing "cultural" stuff like going to museums, tasting new foods and/or experiencing different cultures, and if he didn't really have any particular hobbies. The majority of commenters seemed to think that travel probably wasn't for him and he might as well stay home.
I didn't completely agree with that. My opinion was (and still is) that you don't necessarily always need to go sightseeing, do any kind of special activities, or have any unique experiences in order to justify a trip away from home. If you have the time and money to afford it, sometimes a trip out of town is worth it just for a change of scenery, even if you end up doing exactly the same shit that you do in your spare time at home anyway.
My big trip for this year will be my upcoming 2.5-week sojourn through Peru next month. But afterwards, I'm also seriously considering doing a smaller trip later in the year, where I'll just fly to someplace like Austin or Santa Fe or Denver (I live in SF) and spend a couple of days doing nothing except hanging out in coffeeshops surfing the Internet on my laptop, chilling out, walking around, and MAYBE doing some shopping and/or bicycling around town. No conventional "touristy" sightseeing, no special activities, just doing pretty much the same stuff that I do on the weekends in my hometown anyway.
Anyone else ever do this? Do you ever go out of town for at least a couple of days for no other reason than to relax, do nothing and be away from home?
