I've wanted to visit Russia for a long time, but getting a visa has always been difficult (and very expensive). I'm going to be in the area this summer, and, with the World Cup coming up, I discovered that I could get visa-free entrance this summer if I bought a ticket. So I did, and my World Cup visa is in the mail. The problem is, though, looking at summer prices for hotels in Moscow and St. Petersburg, I noticed that things are very expensive. Do you think it would be worth it to travel to Russia during the World Cup? Would I be able to have an authentic experience, or will it be wall-to-wall football fans and price gouging? Even though I've bought the football ticket, I can always sell it back to FIFA, so it's not as if I've crossed the line of no return.
