I'm planning a late-July / early-August (2019) road trip from Salt Lake City through Moab to Mesa Verde, and then on into Colorado. I have a question about the first leg. My wife and I will be flying to SLC from the east coast, and we'd like to spend our first two nights at one of the nearby ski resorts. Right now, I'm choosing between the Snowbird/Alta area and Park City. I lean toward the former, as the alpine hiking looks better. (And I like the idea of taking the tram rather than hiking all the way up, since we'll still be adjusting to the altitude.) The hiking in Park City doesn't seem quite as good, but I know there's a lot more going on in the town itself (restaurants, nightlife, etc.) So my question is: what's Snowbird/Alta like in the summer? Will most of the restaurants and hotels stay open? Will there be enough going on (other than the hiking) to entertain us for a few days?
