Hello r/solotravel! I'm here looking for help on my travel idea which aims to help tourists understand and meet local culture and people of the place they visit.
The problem- Many tourists go to another country to experience something different, meet new people and learn more about the culture. But none of this happens as many tourists aren’t really engaging with the locals people that much, they aren’t experiencing the real food, or do they know the hidden gems of a city.
Solution- Connect the traveller to a locals in the city. These locals aren’t guides, they are average people who live in the city. They are paid a small amount as a part-time job to show around, tell them about the culture and most importantly be a friend. The locals have the option of doing it for free, or doing it for money.
How I came up with the idea- I love to travel, and I mostly solo travel since paying for a package is too expensive. Previously I went to a place with my family, this place we didn’t know much about. It was all of a sudden and we decided to go without any plans. We got there and asked a lot of people to suggestions on what to see. Every single one were really helpful. A few of them even offered to take us around the city, one person took us around a local attraction explaining it. While others paid a fee to get guides. So I thought what if we pay people like these, people who genuinely show us a good time, people who we can later consider as friends.
Competition- There are two websites which is similar 1) https://www.rentalocalfriend.com/ and 2) https://www.showaround.com/
Both of these websites are pretty good, and I think they did a great job. I could have come close to something like this if I had started my idea years ago, but I held back, now I really wanna try even if this doesn’t work out.
How I plan to improve- I plan to offer blogs inside. People can blog about their experiences. They can plan out their trips thanks to a inbuilt organiser. Our website tells the story of the locals and the culture. This way the travellers can see what type of person this guy is really and know more about him. For now these are the features I plan to include. I would love your help to improve on this idea and give me more suggestions. What more can I add, what am I doing wrong? I would highly appreciate and love to hear from you all. Thank you for your time.
