Bad idea traveling while bearded?
Probably seems like a strange question, but I'll be travelling solo for the first time internationally and I've never left the country (US) before. This summer I'll be studying for 5 weeks in Perugia, Italy but plan to explore some of the bigger cities of Europe (Rome, Barcelona, Berlin) while I'm over there. I'm an early 20's student with a big, relatively long reddish and brown beard.
I talked to a family friend who has lived in Naples for thirty years and she expressed that some Italian citizens are wary of beards due to the influx of immigrants over the few years, though she did seem to be quite biased and a bit of a fear-monger.
As I have no experience abroad, what would you all recommend? I know in some situations I can come off as more aggressive, untrustworthy because of it, and I don't want to be ill-received by people while I'm overseas. Do any of you have experiences/stories to share? Thanks!
