3 Week August Thailand/Vietnam Itinerary Critique
Hello all,
I'd truly appreciate any feedback/suggestions you have for my upcoming (first) solo trip. At the time of travel, I will be a 27 year old (male) recent law school graduate, having freshly taken a grueling 2-day bar exam. I'm down for touristy stuff/tours such as visiting ruins, cave kyaking, ATV rides, etc., partying on some nights, relaxing on the beach (especially the first few days of the trip), hiking, and am all about authentic food.
With all that said, here is my proposed itinerary:
Day 1: Travel Day (July 29th) Days 2-4: Bangkok, Thailand (July 30th - Aug. 1) Days 5-6: Phuket, Thailand (Aug. 2-3) Days 7-11: Krabi/Phi Phi Island (though I heard the island might be closed at this time) (Aug. 4-8) Days 12-14: Hoi An, Vietnam (Aug. 9-11) Days 15-17: Hanoi, Vietnam (Aug. 12-14) Days 18-20: Halong Bay, Vietnam (Aug. 15-17) Day 21: Fly back to Bangkok (Aug. 18) Day 23: Fly Home (Aug. 20)
A couple of things to note: 1. The reason I will be heading back to Bangkok on Day 21 is roundtrip flights to and from Bangkok are cheaper than first flying to Bangkok, and then flying home from Hanoi. 2. Originally, I really really really wanted to squeeze a 4 day trip to Siem Reap/Angkor Ruins in this itinerary. Following the advice of this subreddit, I felt that that would be cramming too much. That said, if there is something on my itinerary you would skip in order to fit in Cambodia for 3-4 days, let me know. 3. As far as traveling once in SE Asia, I will likely be looking to fly from Bangkok to Phuket on Aug. 1 or 2, from Phuket/Krabi/or Bangkok to Hoi An on Aug. 8 or 9, from Hoi An to Hanoi on Aug. 11 or 12, and from Hanoi to Bangkok on Aug. 18. Any other travel will be via taxi or bus.
