What is your policy on adding people you meet on social media?

I always find this is a bit of a weird one.

Say you've spoken to someone most of the day, maybe even two days. Had a good time with them, but you probably won't ever see them again. Maybe you might. Do you go for the add on Facebook/Insta/wherever?

Part of me, maybe the cynical side, thinks that realistically I've barely known this person a couple of days and probably won't paths again. Will I really care when they're posting their new dog pics in five years time?

The other side makes me think what if one day they do post and they're closeby on social media, and I'll never see it. And, honestly, I have spoken to them more recently than 99% of my FB friends. And I probably care enough to see their travel photos than their own friends back home, given we've got that mutual bond over travelling now.

Another thing is potentially being "too liberal": I met a guy in a hostel once and we had spoke for maybe 20 minutes in the dorm, that is it. Nice guy, friendly enough. The next day he was checking out and comes over, asks for my number, says "keep in touch!"... dude never messaged me and being honest, a brief 20 minute chat isn't enough for me to be compelled to keep in touch. He also got two other peoples number. I felt that was a bit over the top and a bit too liberal.

What "policy" do you guys have on adding people, or when do you feel its appropriate?
