Turku, Finland; And then what?
Hi, I'm looking for advice in travelling to Finland. I live in the UK, but one of my best friends I've made since returning home from travelling Aus and SEA has been my friend N, and she has had to go back to her home in Turku.
We've always talked about coming to see each other, and so I'm now saving to go visit this Summer, Winter, or next year.
If anyone has any advice for what to see, do, visit, how to get there (I was considering getting the new Amsterdam Eurostar, then from there to Stockholm, and ferry to Turku), and do's/don'ts, I' d be very grateful.
Any national parks that allow camping, and especially with dogs, as N has a dog too nearby would be lovely to hear recommendations.
As for the "and then what"; this is likely to be my only holiday this year, and would like to see anything else that is a "can't miss". While I'm in Finland, is there anything in particular that should be worth visiting that's not in Turku?
Budget wise; Excluding transport, I have 1700 Euro saved currently (expecting ~800 or so for 2 weeks hostel), but have another 2-3 months at the absolute minimum to set aside, depending on what would be the best time; a - dependent on what time I can get off work, and b - dependent on what the opinion is for the best time to visit. Activity wise; I'm a fan of museums, walking/hiking/camping in National Parks, snowboarding (and may be able to rent a splitboard). I'm learning photography (Landscapes, Wildlife, and Architecture mainly) and love history, so the castle and the cathedral are must visits. As we're both former military, I think that the Naval Museum is something I can see going to visit. As for going out at night, I like all sorts, Live music, speakeasies, tiki bars, wine bars, copy-paste late night clubs. I don't want to impose on N or her family, so have looked at hostels - HVC Hostel in Kurjenmaki is the nearest one to N, and has decent reviews. Time availability; probably no more than 3 weeks due to work time constraints. I don't need to stay in Turku once I've got there, but wouldn't have a problem Research; hasn't really extended past a quick google or tripadvisor search, or talking about the Moomin Theme Park (which is a must see tbh).
Thanks for your help guys :)
