I would like to travel with my younger sister - technically not solo but we are facing some challenges that make it feel like being solo... (budgeting, no experience out of group, etc)

I've already posted here a couple months ago when I planned to solo travel last year, but I had some commitment issues. Now I'm at a time crunch (PTOs to be used by August and the travel bug is itching) so I'm reaching out again on some recommendations under some new challenges. I know this isn’t exactly “solo” since I’ll be with my sister.. But I’m going to consider it as such since:

  • I personally have 0 solo experience (traveled w/ friends in small groups), and now I’ll be with my younger sister who has traveled literally once to Paris with my family and I 4 summers ago.

  • My friends/family usually takes care of itinerary - but I'm down to take on the reigns of planning things on my own

  • She has no job or savings, so I would like some economical tips on paying for two.

  • We’re both anxious people in unfamiliar places haha. So two = one solo traveler in my mind :P

I have a pretty good bonus I’ll be accepting by August, but that doesn’t mean I plan to spend it all! I'd like to enjoy the culture properly while not remaining totally frugal, so I'm allowing myself to budget a little extra than I normally would had I not been offered my bonus.

Since I’ll be paying twice the amount, I would like to know good and decently affordable destinations for 2 female travelers in their early-late 20s. We would love to go to Europe and we're considering Paris again since we still have a ton more to see... but open to anywhere really! We would like to spend at least a week somewhere before she heads back to college, preferably in the months of June-July (I have to use up my PTO days before Aug)

Bit info on us: We’re 20 mins from NYC, so you can cross that out lol. We don’t drive, so destinations that have public transit and/or have things to see and do within walking distance are a huge plus! Also, we're two Asian females.. so would like to avoid places with prejudices against women and Asians.

Ballpark budget planning in USD (for ~7 days/6 nights not including airfare & lodging for one person):

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
$10-20 $10-$20 $25-50
Public trans (7-day ult'd pass) 1 time pmt Sightseeing expenses (museums, attractions, etc)
$50??? up to $100 (prioritizing free activities like gardens/parks, free museums, etc as necessary.)

TOTAL: ~$145-$190 (+7-day public trans pass if applicable) per day, for one person... again, just a ballpark range

So yeah. I'll factor in the airfare + lodging prices after.

Thank you SO much… I really appreciate any recommendations coming our way!
