First Time Solo Traveling, Trying To Find A Destination For NYE.
I tried getting some advice from r/travel but I didn't get too many replies. Hopefully here I can get a bit more insight. So I'm trying to leave the US for NYE and stay somewhere for about 2 weeks (dates Im looking at are Dec 27 - Jan 10, subject to change).
I'm an 18 year old female, I'll be 19 at the time of travel. I've never traveled out of the country but I will be going to Indonesia this summer with my best friend. My interests for this trip will mostly be cultural and immersing myself in the country. I'm not too interested in outdoorsy things, I'm more interested in city life. Im very big on trying new, exotic foods so a country with a lot of interesting, flavorful dishes would be great. Since I am solo traveling Im looking for a city with a lot of friendly locals, plus I consider myself to be very friendly and I especially enjoy conversing with people over food/drinks. A city with some fun nightlife thats unique would be a plus too.
Weather wise, Id prefer somewhere very warm and tropical. However Im also open to going some place that has like a winter wonderland vibe. So with that criteria in mind, here are the destinations I was looking at.
-Rio De Janeiro, Brazil: Ive been wanting to travel to Brazil for a while now. Living in SoCal, Ive met quite a bit of Brazilian people and they are so friendly and nice. I speak a bit of Portuguese (slow conversations lol) and I look Brazilian too (ethnically Im not) so I feel like Id be able to really immerse myself in the city with the people. Ive tasted some Brazilian food too which I love. Ive heard that Rio is a big city with lots of things to do, it just gets crowded and that there is a lot of potential for things getting stolen. Thats about my only worry with traveling there, but not enough that it'd stop me from visiting.
-Budapest, Hungary: The most appealing thing to me about this place is the beautiful winter wonderland vibe Ive heard about, igloos, castles, snow, etc. Ive heard many wonderful things about the city in terms of food, culture, and overall vibe. Being in Hungary would also give me flexibility to possibly go to Austria where I heard the NYE celebration is amazing.
-Puerto Rico: The appeal to me for this place is that it's like Brazil where it's warm, tropical, beachy, but not too much of a safety concern. PR is another destination Ive been wanting to visit for a while because of what Ive heard about the food, the friendly people, the gorgeous beaches, the good surf haha. Im not sure how fun the nightlife is here however. I feel as though PR might be more of a family destination whereas I'm looking for a destination where theres a big appeal to young, single people haha. Im not entirely sure though.
Anyways please let me know from your guys experience where you guys would think Id have the best time! Thanks!
