Can we take a moment to appreciate Merrell shoes?
I bought my first pair 7 years ago, the Merrell Chameleon 2's (with real laces, not the modern locking laces), and today I still use the same pair. I've been to 25+ countries with them, done multi-day treks, played sports in them, worn them on ice, sand, dirt and mud, in rain and shine, snow and hail, and they're still the comfiest, most durable pair of shoes I've ever worn.
They're like these, but a bit of a different style. They're light and small enough that they can fit in a 30L+ bag, and the vibram soles on the bottom are made in a way which allows you to walk on wet rocks with ease (think skipping over a small stream during a hike). They also look decent with shorts and pants (though there are better options if you're wearing jeans and going out to a club or something).
Anyone else have Merrells?
TL;DR: Buy Merrells. They make the perfect shoes for solo travellers!
