Hey /r/solotravel! I am scheming about a 10 day trip the first week of May, and thought it would be a good time to pop over to Europe (from east coast USA) before the summer crowds. I'm thinking Budapest, but with 10 days I'd like to add somewhere else nearby. I was thinking of heading over to Slovenia - Ljubljana for a day or two and then checking out Lake Bled as well.

A few questions:

1) How many days would you recommend staying in Budapest for? I was thinking ~5 and maybe including a day trip in there.

2) Thoughts on taking a day trip to Bratislava and/or Vienna from Budapest?

3) Would you recommend Lake Bled as a day trip, or staying overnight?

4) Does anyone have experience with taking the train from Budapest to Ljubljana? It's more expensive to fly home from Ljubljana than Budapest, but seems worth it if the train takes 8 hours...
