(28/F) Ireland - 2 July to 13 July - Can't Settle On Anything!
Hi all! First time posting, so I hope I don't screw things up too badly.
As stated in the title, I'm interested in heading to Ireland for two weeks in July, but I've been doing a ton of reading and I've found myself stuck with some decision paralysis.
I'm expecting the weather to be a bit (a lot) blustery, so I'm not looking to stay indoors, and I would really rather meet locals rather than other travelers, so I'm attempting to avoid hostels and tourist spots. Is AirBnB worth it?
On that note, I sort of just threw a dart at Europe and settled on Ireland because I don't really know anything about it (outside of historical notes, I don't know anything contemporary). Everything I read about sounds so cool, though!
I was hoping some folks who have done the trip before might help me pare down the list. I do have some specific questions, though:
1 - I haven't the foggiest idea how to drive a manual, but renting a manual in Europe is cheaper. I have heard some good things about public transit (I enjoyed bussing everywhere in Scotland, not sure how similar that is), but I'm also not too keen on following a timetable, since I'm traveling on an, "Oh, what's that over there?" basis. How forgiving are the roads/drivers? Should I just suck it up and rent an automatic, or is getting from city to city on public transit relatively low-stress?
2 - I'm planning on landing in Dublin, due to the airport being larger and cheaper to fly in to, but is the city itself worth hanging out in for any extended amount of time? Or should I scoot out of there ASAP?
I hope this doesn't come across as low-effort. Trying to burst my research bubble! Thanks for everyone's time!
