26M from UK considering taking a Working Holiday in Australia but need advice!

Hi All,

26M here from UK who is considering taking a Working Holiday in Australia, but am in a bit of a predicament and have a few questions for others who may have made this move, and would appreciate any positive and negative feedback of the experience as a whole.

I've been considering taking the Working Holiday before I'm 30 and have always been attracted to Australia for many reasons, mainly the weather and the different lifestyle to what we have in the UK (I've always wanted to surf!)

I'm actually planning on taking a 1 month holiday to Australia in October/November this year, and will be travelling with a tour group from Sydney all the way up to Cairns, then spending a week and a half back in Sydney with friends who live there currently.

I feel disjointed from living and working in the UK, and am not 100% committed to my job, so wouldn't mind quitting to start a new life in Oz, but this is where one of my issues lie - If I were to quit my job to do a 2 year working holiday, what are my chances of finding full time work/sponsorship once I am there? I know it all depends on my work ethic, but I currently work in the financial sector and, after emailing a few Aussie Banks, I realise it's not possible to get work with the Working Holiday Visa in Australia. Is it possible to find a long term career whilst on the Working Holiday Visa in Oz (I know you can be no longer than 6 months at one time with one employer).

Also, I called a travel company recently who assist in creating the experience with the Working Holiday, they help insure that there will be jobs, that there is accommodation, bank and tax accounts sorted, mobile phone etc etc, at a price that I would be willing to pay. However, they have said that, in order to register with them and go ahead with the Working Holiday, I have to commit 12 months before I plan to go (i.e. I will travel April 2019). The issue I have with this is that I would essentially need to tell my work now that I want to quit in 12 months time, whereas my main plan was to have a holiday FIRST in October and then decide if I want to do the Working Holiday about 4 to 6 months after. Are there any other companies that UK goers would suggest work to shorter deadlines than what this one is asking? I'm thinking that if I can give 6 months notice to a company who can help with the experience , I would consider this to be fairly reasonable.

My last question is related to finance. I'm currently on a decent salary and have a lot of savings, but by taking this Working Holiday, I would want to make sure I don't lose most of my savings I have accumulated for this one experience. The person I spoke to on the phone at the travel company claimed he worked in Sydney for 11 months and saved 8 grand (not sure if $AUD or £GBP, I would assume $AUD). Is this realistically possible? Seems too good to be true considering the high rent costs in Sydney, but just wondering how much other UK travellers have saved?

Thanks for reading and any feedback given. I'm so excited to take this step in my life but just want to be completely prepared before I take that leap!
