Toronto to Vancouver via USA in March: I-80, I-90, I-94...?
Hey folks. I'm moving from Toronto to Vancouver in a few weeks. I know, not the best time, but unfortunately it's for a family emergency and I can't exactly postpone until summer.
I'm trying to figure out the best route via the USA to minimize difficult driving conditions. I realize it's winter for most of where I will likely need to drive, but I do have winter tires (Michelin Xi3 with 4 seasons of use) and I've driven in Toronto snow for many years. My car is small front wheel drive hatch. 5 years old. Planning to drive ~750 km/450 miles per day over 8 hours.
Google recommends taking I-94/I-90 through Chicago, Minneapolis, Bismarck and Spokane. This is the shortest trip at 42 hours, but it's pretty close to the border, so I fear that the conditions might be tougher. I'm ok going further south to take the I-90 through Sioux Falls and Rapid City, or I-80/I-84 through Des Moines and Omaha if it'll be a cleaner drive.
Any recommendations? I have no experience with any of these routes, so any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
