Southwest Colorado..."Million Dollar Highway" or Hwy 285?
Hey everyone,
We will be taking a trip through the Four Corners region in late March/early April. Our last 1-1.5 days will have us making our way from near the Durango area to Denver. We are currently struggling to decide on our route. Here are the options:

Option 1: Million Dollar Highway from Durango through Silverton, Ouray, and up to Montrose, then heading east on Hwy 50 through Cimmaron, Monarch Pass, and eventually hitting Hwy 285 at Poncha Springs

Option 2: Durango to Pagosa Springs, on to Del Norte, stopping at Great Sand Dunes, and enjoying the scenery of the distant Rockies and the Sangre De Cristos.
Both seem to have plenty of scenery. Obviously taking Hwy 550 will be much more sensitive to weather conditions. However, driving conditions aside, what would be your preferred route?
