MN to SoCal via Vancouver: Tips/Recommendations?
I have been on a number of road trips over the years ranging from weekend trips to cross-country adventures, but I've never planned one myself from scratch. Now, I just got accepted to my dream PhD program in LA to start next fall and since I'll need my car there anyway, a friend recommended that I turn it into a road trip. I love visiting new cities and parks and I haven't really spent any time in the Western US, so I'm starting to tentatively plan a multi-week trip:
Minneapolis -> Winnipeg -> Calgary -> Vancouver -> Seattle -> Portland -> San Francisco -> LA
Hoping to spend a day in each city, plus stop in at least Banff and Yosemite--probably staying mostly in hostels and camping when possible. I'm usually a pretty "figure it out as I go along" kind of traveler, but I recognize that a trip this big would probably benefit some substantial planning; does anyone have...
-Recommendations for other places to stop along the way?
-Tips on things that people often forget to plan for?
-Opinions on whether this trip sounds like a good/bad idea?
Any and all thoughts are welcome! Thanks!
