I'm planning a solo trip to see family in Southern Idaho, but I have winter questions?

Hey, all!

I got the idea to use my birthday money to see some family in Idaho Falls two weeks from now while on a late night drive to the middle of nowhere. This would be my first trip going solo for more than 7+ hours in a day and in winter. I got to college in eastern Washington right at the fork between I-90 and I-82, and I was wondering what I need to do to better winterize the car and which route to take. For reference my car is relatively new, a 2015 Ford Fiesta, but it's very small. I've done the trip before in the summer with my sister on both routes. The 90 through Missoula is a gorgeous route in the summer, but there are two passes and several back roads to get through the West Yellowstone area that I wouldn't be fond of in my subcompact. The south route takes longer, but it's mostly devoid of passes. I'm leaning towards that.

I have wider tires with deeper tread and sandbags on the rear axles to balance out the weight and get me out from being stuck in the snow, but what else should I be concerned with regarding winterization? The weather has been VERY hot here for winter with no apparent sign of it cooling down any time soon, but I want to be sure in case it changes for the worst and be prepared.

Also, I'd be leaving on Friday at 4:30-ish with the sun setting around 5:30-6. Where are the bad deer crossing areas on the south route since it's a 10 and a half hour drive one way from where I'm at?

Thank you for your feedback. Happy tripping!
