Bangladesh: I have travel insurance through employee medical insurance and through credit card. Would it be unnecessary to purchase through World Nomads? I have travel insurance through employee medical insurance and through credit card. Would it be unnecessary to purchase through World Nomads? - Bangladesh

I have travel insurance through employee medical insurance and through credit card. Would it be unnecessary to purchase through World Nomads?

Planning on backpacking through South East Asia for 52 days. Just wondering if the coverage provided through my work and credit card is sufficient.

One of my main concerns is in regards to stolen baggage coverage. I have a dSLR camera I'm taking with me that ideally, I'd like coverage for. However, I purchased my camera and lenses second hand on Craiglist years ago. My interpretation of the policy wording from World Nomads suggest that I wouldn't get any coverage since A. I don't have the original receipt for the camera and B. The camera and lens are over 5 years old. Should I just assume the risk of potential theft?

What about the rest of the items in my bag and the backpack itself? Would you really need to have receipts for all your goods such as clothes or does World Nomads already have a predetermined sum they'd reimburse you for?

Are there any other considerations I need to consider in terms of travel insurance? What are other people's experience with baggage coverage?

Here are the details to my work and credit card coverage.

Employee Medical Coverage

  • 100% coverage for a hospital stay in a semi-private room.
  • 100% coverage for emergency room or outpatient fees, doctor's fees, x-rays or lab fees related to the initial emergency treatment, as well as ambulance fees.
  • The maximum your healthcare plan will pay in a lifetime is $500,000 per person. This is combined with out of country.

Credit Card Coverage

Baggage Delay If your checked baggage is delayed for more than four hours at your away-from-home destination, you may be eligible for reimbursement of up to $100 per day for up to three days to purchase essential items. Simply charge the full cost of your tickets to your Capital One card.

Common Carrier Travel Accident Insurance

Charge your fare to your Capital One credit card and you, your spouse and dependent children are insured against accidental loss of life or dismemberment for up to $250,000 while travelling on a common carrier (for example, a bus, cruise ship, plane or train).

Travel Assistance

Provides 24/7 assistance for medical referrals, emergency cash transfers, lost documents and ticket replacements, lost luggage assistance and legal referrals when travelling outside of your province of residence. Any costs incurred in connection with these services are charged to your Capital One card.
