We’re taking a roadtrip around Alaska/North Canada this July/August and will have a big 4x4 rented from Avis in Las Vegas. As we’re from the UK all of our insurance and miles are included and we have a zero excess waiver.

We are looking at traversing the following:

Under the T&C’s of the rental we’re not allowed on “dirt, unpaved etc” roads. However, this has never stopped us before, and never caused an issue when the car has been returned with dents, scratches, chips etc.

This time though I have some concern as the Internet makes it sound like your guaranteed to get smashed windows and unusable tyres. Is this true or just an overreaction by people?
