What's the most effective method you've found for finding travel buddies when visiting new places?
I love exploring, so it's great that my job involves a lot of traveling. Unfortunately, I'm NOT a great solo traveler, and part of the fun of exploration for me has been meeting new people to explore with. Or, trying to meet those people anyway. So far, my attempts have been more "miss" than "hit". So, two questions for my fellow solo travelers who prefer to explore with a travel buddy:
What methods and resources do you use to find people? I've tried everything from local subreddits to bars without success, and honestly have only ever had "hits" with people I've met in my hotels. Is there a better way to meet people in new cities? Someone recently suggested Tinder to me, but I'm looking more for "explore the city" and less "explore the bedroom".
Do you find that it's better to connect with a fellow tourist so that you can explore and discover the destinations together? Or do you prefer to connect with locals who already know the good spots and can show you around?
