Thoughts on Sri Lanka as a solo female?
Long time lurker but I love this sub!
I’m planning my first trip to SEA and wanted to include Sri Lanka. However, I’ve just learned that they’ve reinstated a ban to prevent women from buying alcohol. This is a bummer for me, since I love grabbing a few beers after a long day of exploring and have found that bars are the easiest places to meet people.
I know I could just go to Sri Lanka and not drink, and I’m fine with being sober, but the fact that I’m wouldn’t even be allowed to because I’m a woman really irritates me. It also makes me wonder if I’ll encounter other prejudices if I travel there and now I’m doubting if I even want to go, despite how beautiful it looks.
I really would love to hear some thoughts from other travelers about this area, the new ban, or how women are treated in general there.
