Thoughts on if this trip sounds doable in a one-week timeframe?
I had posted here yesterday about hopefully going from Green Bay to Zion National Park (Utah) for my 30th birthday. However, after some looking into my vacation availability and discussing with my SO, that's just not going to work for us this time around. So instead of venturing down into the depths of Utah, we're thinking of just doing a loop around the Dakotas, as there's still plenty to see.
Keep in mind that we'll be bringing our two dogs. At the time of the trip one will be a 3 year old Boxer mix. The other is my Aussie/Corgi mix, who will be 9 months. We're looking into lodging that will accommodate them, whether it be a small motel/hotel or Airbnb. As much as I want to camp, I don't know that the availability will be there in the middle of summer, along with allowing pets. Edit: We'll probably board the dogs on Day 3 (see below) and will plan in advance to find a facility to do that.
Here is what I have mapped out so far, and some of the destinations I'm hoping that we can see. I'll also list them below.
DATES: Saturday July 28th - Saturday August 4th
Saturday: Drive from Green Bay, WI to Sioux Falls, SD to stay that night.
Sunday: Drive from Sioux Falls, SD to Badlands National Park. Stay in Rapid City that night.
Monday: Visit Black Hills, Rushmore. Stay in Rapid City again that night.
Tuesday: Visit Custer State Park. Stay in Rapid City again that night.
Wednesday: Drive to Devil's Tower. Drive to/stay in Glendive, Montana that night.
Thursday: Drive to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Drive to/stay in Fargo, ND that night.
Friday: Drive to/stay in Minneapolis, MN that night.
Saturday: Drive back to Green Bay.
Thoughts? Tips? Suggestion on where to stay, what to/to not see, etc? I've never gone on a road trip before. I don't think this is too grueling. A lot of the destinations are fairly close together if they're packed into one day. But I could be super wrong. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
