Need opinions regarding trip pacing!
Hi everybody,
I took my first trip to Europe this past summer and fell in love with travel. I was with friends for about half the time, and on my own the other half, for a total of a month. I'm planning a much longer trip to Europe for this summer, between two and three months. I'll be on my own most of the time but will also be meeting up with friends.
I'm trying to figure out the right trip pacing that allows me to cover a solid amount of ground, but I don't want to feel rushed and I'd like to have enough time to appreciate the smaller local sights. I also don't want to get burned out - I was trying to do a new city every three days last summer and got really exhausted by the third week which sucked.
Right now my plan is roughly as follows:
- 3 nights London
- 1 night York
- 4 nights Edinburgh
- 2 nights Loch Ness (as part of a bus tour)
- 3 more nights Edinburgh
- 4 nights Belfast
- 5 nights Dublin
- 6 nights Galway (will spend lots of time outside of Galway like the Aran Islands but will stay in Galway)
- 4 nights Brussels
- 1 night Lille
- 3 nights Bruges
- 3 nights Ghent
- 2 nights Antwerp
- 2 nights Rotterdam
- 1 night The Hague
- 5 nights Amsterdam
- 5 nights Berlin
- 1 night Dresden
- 1 night Leipzig
- 5 nights Prague
- 4 nights Cesky Krumlov
- 3 nights Vienna
This is as far as I've gotten - may be the end of my trip or I may continue from here.
I would REALLY value any opinions on the pacing (too fast? too slow?) either in general or in specific areas. I'd also love to hear anyone's opinion on whether anything I have on this list should be skipped, or changed to a day trip rather than an overnight stay (or if I'm missing anything you would recommend!)
