Looking for place to travel to in February. What is the best place/hostel you have been to where it was super easy to socialize and have great time with other travelers?
Hello /r/solotravel. This won't be my first trip, but I would still appreciate any advice/suggestions. I usually wouldn't bother posting details about me, but since I am asking for suggestions, I guess it could be helpful to explain a little bit more about myself and what I am looking for.
I am 21y, M, from smaller European country. South-East Europe. I was extremely lucky to reach financial independence very early due to some great decisions and few years of hard work. When I was younger I didn't like going anywhere but in past year everything changed. It took me almost 2 years to just say fuck it and go alone somewhere. I did week in Amsterdam in September, week in Berlin in October, week in Barcelona in December and week in Madrid this month. First 2 were solo trips, last 2 were with friends. I almost decided to go with a friend again, but those trips usually revolve around booze and not much else, and it is pretty hard to meet new people when others don't really care about that. My first 2 trips were completely different and I am looking for something that will challenge me again. I don't want to travel with people I know anymore.
I am not very good at socializing, but I understand that you need to make effort in order to meet others, and not just wait for someone to come to you. I am doing my best, but I also know myself pretty well and there is nothing that I would like more than staying in hostel where it is super easy to meet others, start conversations and just go along with people. I haven't stayed in a lot of hostels, but in some I stayed in, it was super easy to meet others, and in some it was nearly impossible. I feel like 90% of all travelers I see in hostels are Americans/Australians who aren't very interested in talking to anyone who isn't from their country. I know that isn't true for sure, but sometimes it seriously feels like that.
I would like to go someplace that isn't very cold at the moment. Thailand/Portugal look extremely interesting to me, and South America as well(the only thing that sucks are 20 hour flights). Can anyone here recommend me hostel/place that was completely different than anything else and felt like home? Where it was easy to meet other people or where they held some great organized activities and stuff like that?
I got back from my trip 3 days ago and I feel like I am in cage once again, even though I have total freedom to go anywhere. Every time I come back I feel more distanced from all my relationships, and I realize that it is very common thing around here. I would like to go somewhere and just have blast once again with people I have never met. Any suggestion or story is extremely, extremely appreciated. If it wasn't for this sub, I probably wouldn't have booked my first trip anytime soon. And I am forever grateful for that.
