I need advice for my first solo trip in the USA.
Hi Guys! I'm new on reddit so feel free to correct me if I break any rules or if I'm not clear enough. I'm 21/m, from Switzerland and will be in Chicago from mid-May till the end of June as a language student. After that I have the whole July to travel around in the USA, as long as my budget lasts. (Somewhere around 5000$ + meals) I will not be able to rent a car as I haven't got my driving license long enough yet. So i thought about flying to different cities and take some daily trips from there. What I had in mind was Chicago-SF-Denver-New Orleans-NYC-Boston. Staying in each city for 4-5 days, lodging in cheap hotels (or airbnb?) Has anyone done something similar already? Am I beeing unrealistic as its too pricey/stressful? What alternative would you know or recommend?
Elsewise I thought about joining an organised small group tour like TrekAmerica or similar, but don't know if those are fun as I like to be spontaneous. Would also be interested to travel around in California/West Coast instead but it seems a bit unrealistic without a car. I could still do it in another vacation when I'm able to rent a car. As a sidenote: what I'm interested in is architecture, photography, sightseeing and natural parks.
Anyway I'm helpful for any inputs, advice etc.
