Cities for longer stops on RTW trip?
Hi, first time poster here looking for some advice: I'm planning to travel around the world for 11 months, starting this July. Travel burnout comes up quite often in this sub and elsewhere. So my idea is to include at least three longer stops on the route I'm planning right now - places where I can stay for a month or so, rent an apartment, cook my own meals, get to know the neighbourhood, basically "live" in the place for a while.
What would be good cities to do this, specifically in Southern Africa, South America (I'd also like to do a Spanish course here) and South East Asia? Suggestions from any other places are welcome too (I'm from Europe, so this won't be part of my trip).
Some basic requirements: I'd prefer cities over countryside (but not necessarily large capitals); the place should be affordable (as in: cheaper than Western Europe); and it should feel safe, even when walking home alone at night.
Thanks in advance!
