Advice on "homebases" in southeastern Europe?

So I'll get straight to the point, I'm looking to travel around southeastern Europe from early May to probably early July. I'm not much of a city hopper and prefer to stay in one place for a while, usually at least a week. I'd like to find places that are well located with lots of stuff to do and also good stuff around that I can make day trips out of, like small towns nearby, or good parks. Currently I'm thinking Ljubljana, Sarajevo, Dubrovnik - maybe 1-2 weeks in each. I'm not worried about being bored or running out of things to do - I work online which takes up a decent part of my day and the rest of the time I just like to relax and get to know whatever city I'm in, walk around, take it all in. Would love some beautiful nature around me as well. From there I'm undecided, I would be happy to either go west and do southern Italy, maybe Corsica, or go east and do Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, etc. Any tips or recommendations?
FWIW I'm 24F, from the US but completely comfortable traveling around Europe on my own. More into nature and things to do outdoors than finding a good party scene. Love culture and beautiful architecture as well, and cities with a lot of character and little nooks and crannies to explore and discover. Cheap cost of living is high on my list as well. TIA!
