12 hour layover in Dubai. Enough? Advice?

I'm considering booking a flight that has a 11hr:50min layover in Dubai on my way to Bangkok, Thailand.

There is also the option for a 23hr:50min layover

For the 12 hour layover I would be arriving in Dubai at 4:15AM and departing Dubai at 4:05PM

For the 24 hour layover i would be arriving 5:15pm and departing 4:05pm the next day ( the 12 hour layover seems like a better option)

How much time do I need to consider to get out and back into the airport as well as transporting to the main "must see/experience" spots in Dubai?

What do you recommend I see in Dubai?

Last thing I want is to miss my flight to Thailand because of traffic or something like that.

So how can I get around? Is public transport to the airport available and reliable?

Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!
