Where to stay in Argentina
I made a thread in r/travel but felt it would be better suited here.
I'm deciding within the day whether to stay in the free care of a host family, or the $400 USD-worth [stay] of a hostel. There are benefits and detriments to both besides cost that can outweigh each other, and I'm really stuck.
I'm just a bit conscious, in that with the host people (not really a family), I don't want to feel... obligated, to their care. These guys are offering to let me stay in their home for 6 weeks for free - I am grateful for that, but on the other hand I'm worried they're outgoing and might want to take me out sight-seeing or doing activities (I know they have their own lives, but with the volunteer program I'm going with, other volunteers have shared stories and videos of their hosts taking them all around which I got a bit spooked from) and I don't want to tell them no. I don't want to say yes either. It is weirdly about freedom I guess, feeling it in any way possible.
In a hostel, it normally shouldn't be better for me... sharing bathrooms, bunk beds and lounges, but this time I am sort of opening myself up to social possibilities. Constantly meeting different people-- who are there for the same reason, at that. And on the flipside, if I don't feel like socialising or going out, I, again, unlike with a host family, won't feel obligated, and therefore can find some strength to say "no" if I'm asked or put in a position (of social discomfort).
I was just hoping for advice or experience on either or both ends. Its been kinda tough, and a push in any direction-- maybe not even [either], is much welcome.
