What are must-see cities/places in-between Osaka and Tokyo?
So I'm strongly thinking about doing a solo Japan trip next (Like early october). Depending on how much money I have saved and where I'm at in life in terms of time I can take off, I plan to go for 3 - 4 weeks.
Here's my plan so far:
Day 1 - 3 (flexible): Fly into Osaka, spend a few days there.
Days 4 - 11: Hike the Kumano Kudo, which involves a 2 hour train from Osaka to Tanabe, and then a bus to the trailhead at Takijiri-oji. This hike should take about 5 days and I'll stay at guesthouses along the way. End in Nachi, possibly take a bus to Shingu, and take an express to either Osaka or Nagoya. unless there is another way to get to one of the cities directly from Nachi.
Days 12 - 16: ?? Keep in mind this might be longer than 4 days, I'm just going to assume for now 3 weeks is what I have.
Days 17 - 21: Tokyo, fly out.
It seems the most obvious route most people do is Osaka - Kyoto - Nagoya - Tokyo. Which I'm open to doing, but am wary of just how touristy Kyoto may be, and am wondering if maybe there are any overlooked places that I should check out instead. Or maybe I'm wrong about Kyoto, it's totally worth it, and I should skip Nagoya. Or just do both! What do you guys think?
